Empower

The successful concept of Empower Junee High School will once again be offered to Stage 4 and Stage 5 students in 2018.

Students who are committed, enthusiastic and independent learners are invited to submit an application to learn alongside like-minded students next year. This application will also take into account an assessment by this year's teachers, and a statement of support from parents.

This class is called the Empower Class and students nominate themselves to be considered through an application process. This is an exciting opportunity for students to learn with similar peers, engaging with interesting and challenging class learning and project based activities.

Staff are specifically trained and the result is a dynamic, motivated class who learn together to achieve at the high level that is expected of them. Students are driven to achieve their personal best in a supportive and encouraging class atmosphere.

What is Empower?

The Self Select class at Junee High School is a class for students who are focused on their own learning, enjoy learning with others and learning to a more significant level than the average student. Students in Empower solve problems, investigate and strive thoroughly to explore topics deeply and commit themselves to their learning, often completing over and above the expected outcomes for students at that age level.

Students are surrounded by like-minded peers who share similar values and qualities- they are dedicated, intelligent and are driven to achieve their personal best. In having all of these students together in the one class, there is an atmosphere of competition and motivation, leading to greater success.

Applications:

Application forms will be distributed early in semester two after the students have received their first School Report for the year.

The completed application must be signed by a parent to indicate their permission and support. An endorsement of the application by the student's current primary school teacher, or high school year adviser is also required.  This ensures that a class of the most appropriate, independent and committed learners is formed.
